Red Mud Flowing Down Ute Pass Monday [Photo]

Water running bright red from the red dirt on Ute Pass

While on my way up to Woodland Park Monday I got stuck in a traffic jam due to yet another rock slide smashing a car near the Cliff Dwellings above Manitou Springs. As CDOT cleared the rock and debris off the road, my friend was able to get a shot of the water running bright red down the hill (the soil and rocks along Ute Pass are red). It was one of those “that’s pretty cool but kinda lame” moments…so we took a picture.

The Pikes Peak Region has had so many torrential rains lately this is becoming a common occurrence. Normally this time of year everything is turning brown from a typical dry summer but it currently looks greener than spring!
